HELPING WITH ADVANCE PLACEMENT EXAMS
Marsha Potthoff, Principal of West Campus McHenry Community High School, and Carl Vallianatos, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented the program for the McHenry Rotary Club, Thursday noon, January 14th, at the McHenry VFW Lodge. They are encouraging seniors to enter post secondary education through Advanced Placement Courses which require students to pass Advance Placement Tests. They noted that the cost to administer these tests next spring would be $30,260.
The students and their families have to bear these costs. Thus, the school has established a Cost Reduction Program to help students pay for their tests. The need, Marsha explained, is for civic clubs and other community organizations to become sponsors and there are four different levels to help defray these costs. Each level will have benefits to the sponsoring organizations—the levels ranging from $500 to $3,000. Principal Potthoff concluded, “We appreciate all McHenry Rotary does for our community and hope you might consider helping with this project.”
