On January 11, 2018,  Johnsburg High School Business Teacher and DECA Sponsor Terri Szramek introduced three seniors from this year’s JHS DECA team.  They presented DECA’s "Ringwood Rocket 5K", which represents a community wide effort led by DECA students to raise funds for two Johnsburg teachers, Andy and Kim Reinhard (and their family).  The Reinhards, parents of three young children, suffered extensive and unexpected medical bills.  Proceeds from DECA’s efforts have helped to mitigate the Reinhards’ medical costs.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  It has 215,000 Members, 3,500 High School Chapters, 275 Collegiate Chapters and 5,500 Advisors.  Students who are members of DECA learn leadership, communication skills, perseverance, and teamwork as part of the DECA program.  Historically, the DECA program at Johnsburg High School has been very successful; on April 4, 2014 the Chicago Tribune reported "Johnsburg High School Business Students Win at Illinois DECA Competition".  This year the Johnsburg High School DECA Chapter prepares to participate in an upcoming DECA competition.
